Referee Program
The Burke Basketball referee program exists to provide new and experienced officials to call games for the Burke Basketball youth house leagues.
Rookie teen refs (students with no prior basketball officiating experience) must have turned 13 years old on or before December 1st of this year. The purpose of the starting age is that referees must have a certain level of maturity.
Please keep in mind this program is very demanding as it requires a very mature personality. Young referees may find themselves having to deal with coaches acting in a 'non-professional' manner while still maintaining control of the game. When possible, young referees will be teamed with an experience adult during the early part of their first season.
To become an official for Burke Basketball, you must first register.
Each year our organization trains referees to officiate games for our winter, spring, and summer seasons.
Attending the training sessions is mandatory. Please note that Burke Basketball will do its best to assign games to all candidates that complete the training, but there are occasionally more prospective applicants each season than there are available games.
When possible, Burke Basketball will employ the expertise of experienced/certified referees.
